Donna With 1st Prize Winner
In 1974 Donna and her husband moved to their 50 acre organic cow-calf farm south of Schomberg, Ontario. Donna started painting precise watercolour botanicals, progressed to bird subjects then decided to paint what she knows best - farm life. Donna loves painting her own animals plus those of farming friends. For the most part she prefers animal "portraits", close up head shots. She also paints commissions of pets and people. As of 2013, Donna has taken up oil painting. She loves the oil medium. Donna paints regularly with Kaleidoscope, a group of six York Region friends. She was the Treasurer of the Schomberg Horticultural Society for six years and the Treasurer of Botanical Artists of Canada for four years. She has exhibited in the King Studio Tour 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012 and King Museum, Schomberg Village Street Gallery 2009 and 2011, The Aird Gallery Toronto 2007 and Canada Blooms 2006 and 2007. She had a solo show at Skylight Gallery in Aurora, received in August 24 2008 the Best In Show at the Ontario Horticultural Association Annual General Meeting in Brampton Ontario, first in Watercolour at the Aurora Art Show May 7 2011 and Best in Show "Farm Animals" at Creemore's Curiosity House Gallery in February 2013. Donna is totally thrilled to have been juried into "Art of the Animal Kingdom XVII" in Bennington, Vermont June 15 to August 25, 2013. The juror, Carel Brest van Kempen, selected her "Mongolian Przewalski's Horse". "It is in what I call my pop-art/Warhol style."
